Pre-requisites Test


The pre-requisite test is a performance test administered by a tester to a member of the target audience of the intended instruction, the testee. The pre-requisites test will be administered orally by the tester. The tester will ask the testee to complete a series of tasks to demonstrate the entry level knowledge and skills needed to begin the instructional lesson. The testee will be provided with the necessary equipment and materials to complete the test. Tester will record date and name of testee, observe and record the testee's performance, and record any additional comments/observations on a printed pre-requisite test scoring sheet in pencil.

Instructions for Person Giving Pre-requisites Test


For the pre-requisites test, the tester will perform the following:
  1. prepare the learning setting prior to administering the pre-requisites test
  2. greet the testee and seat them at a desk with a personal computer
  3. explain the purpose of the test
  4. explain how the test will be administered
  5. administer the test

1. In order to prepare the learning setting prior to administering the pre-requisites test, the tester will need to do the following

A. Make sure the necessary equipment and materials for the test are present
  • desk
  • chair
  • personal computer - monitor, keyboard, mouse
  • USB microphone
  • printed pre-requisites test scoring sheet with directions for administering the test (for the tester)
  • pencil
  • device to time the test

B. Set up the personal computer
  • start computer and boot into Win XP operating system
  • check MS Office PPT is installed on computer
  • check sample PPT file is located on computer desktop

C. Place USB microphone on desk in direct line of site of the testee (near monitor or keyboard)

2. Once the testee is present, greet them and seat the testee in a chair at a desk facing the personal computer

3. Explain the purpose of the pre-requisites test to the testee
  • the purpose of the pre-requisites test is to determine whether or not the average person who will be taking the instructional lesson in how to record a narrated PowerPoint presentation using Camtasia Studio 7 has the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully complete the lesson
  • the pre-requisites test is not a graded test, as such the testee will not be "graded" on their performance or receive any results from the test
  • the test is for the benefit of the designer of the instruction so that improvements can be made to the instructional materials should they be necessary

4. Explain how the test will be administered to the testee
  • the testee will be presented with the printed evaluation sheet that lists the tasks and the corresponding the entry level knowledge and skills that will be evaluated during the pre-requisites test prior to taking the test
  • the tester will allow the testee to briefly review the list of tasks and entry level skills being tested
  • the tester will collect the printed sheet that lists the tasks and the corresponding the entry level knowledge and skills that will be evaluated during the pre-requisites test from the testee prior to administering the test
  • the tester will ask the testee to perform a series of tasks using the equipment and materials provided to demonstrate entry level knowledge and skills necessary for taking the instructional lesson
  • the testee may ask the tester to repeat the directions for the task at any point during the task
  • the testee may NOT ask for help or instructions on how to complete a task
  • the testee may respond with, "I don't know" if they do not know how to perform a task
  • the testee may respond with, "I don't understand" if they do not understand the terminology used in the question
  • the testee will be given 2 min to complete each task
  • at the end of 2 min or the completion of the task, whichever comes first, the tester will move on to the next task

5. Tester will administer the test:
  • the tester will present the testee with the printed evaluation sheet that lists the tasks and the corresponding the entry level knowledge and skills that will be evaluated during the pre-requisites test prior to taking the test
  • the tester will allow the testee to briefly review the list of tasks and entry level skills being tested
  • the tester will collect the printed sheet that lists the tasks and the corresponding the entry level knowledge and skills that will be evaluated during the pre-requisites test from the testee prior to administering the test
  • the tester will ask the testee to perform a series of tasks; the questions and corresponding entry level skills are listed in the pre-requisites test scoring sheet.
  • for each entry level knowledge or skill that is performed correctly during each task, the tester will mark an X in the yes column
  • for each entry level knowledge or skill that is NOT performed correctly during each task, the tester will mark an X in the no column
  • the tester will mark in the comments column any instances of uncertainty, prolonged hesitation, asking for clarification, responding with "I don't know" or "I don't understand" that correspond to the task presented to the testee
  • the tester will allow the testee 2 min per task, then proceed to next task
  • upon completion of the test, the tester will inform the testee the test is finished

6. Locate the USB connector on the microphone and and clearly indicate the connector by holding it up for the tester to see.
